Black And White All Over

img01_001img01_013

From the moment that Marc Jacobs' mod Spring '13 black and white collection hit the runway, it became the collection to contend with--not that every other designer in the world didn't take their own shot at cracking the B&W code. Michael Kors' stripes on stripes, although seen before {remember Balenciaga's striped 'it' jacket from '06?} has no doubt spawned a look that will be knocked off at all the price points. And of course my mind was turning over the possibilities of black and white bags...

Introducing our new Salt Creek Soft Tote

Then there was Valentino to consider, with an elegant take on the trend {love that added little hit of a nude collar} while Narciso Rodriguez's black and white spin was lady-like with an edge.

The Salt Creek Fold-Over Clutch was my answer to chic and lady-like with the versatility to go casual.

But it was really the more deconstructed versions of black and white that caught my eye. Celine had such a beautiful relaxed feel, in my opinion, as stunning in it's own way as the Marc Jacobs collection--and much more suited to every day life in California. Jason Wu's black and white offering, while more structured and tailored for life in the city, seems to me to be extremely wearable and can go from day-to- night/work-to-play without much effort. These last two collections were two of my favorites.

The Salt Creek Shopper combines my love of laid back luxury with sea-inspired...and yet I see it totally working in the city as well as the country or the beach.

Last but not least our Salt Creek Mini-Wallet doubles as a little clutch and can fit in with any black and white ensemble.

Would love to know how you plan to wear the black and white trend of SS'13!

P.S. Stay tuned for next week's post that will give you the low-down on how to keep your white bags white and more wisdom gleaned from working with the leather pros.

P.P.S. We now have Pinterest buttons on each and every item in our online store at maryjomatsumoto.com-- so if you're looking to hint about a favorite handbag to your Valentine, it's as easy as hitting the little red button.

Wishing you a happy Friday and relaxing weekend!

Marc Jacobs' collectin was among my Spring 2013 favourites (and I'm one of those who is impartial about his collections). Mary Jo, I think I have a new favourite Mary Jo Matsumoto bag: the Salt Creek Soft Tote. Love the subtle black details. Have a wonderful weekend!

I don't really have the discipline for black and white only but I always admire it on others.
