end of the year reverie

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

I hope you had a happy Christmas and are enjoying the sweet and quiet days before New Year's Eve. It's one of my favorite times of the year, when the flurry of the holidays begins to settle down and there's time to enjoy simple pleasures.

Around here, December whizzed by like a blur, but a few days before Christmas I finally got a chance to dive into Downton Abbey.

Sun Lavinia green dress downton

Like everyone I know, I was quickly sucked into the vortex of Lady Mary and her scandal, the plot thick with dollops of Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Gone With the Wind, Upstairs Downstairs, Howard's End and The Sun Also Rises.

Instead of Downtown Abbey frock envy I came down with a bad case of table envy {the downstairs servant's table is the ultimate farm house table} and find myself dreaming of the day when zingers will roll off my tongue like Cousin Violet. Most of all, I'm longing for January 6, when Season 3 premiers--but in case you can't wait, there's a 10 minute preview launching today {click here}.

I'll be checking in again after the New Year, so until then, I hope you're able to slow down a bit and enjoy the end of the year!

xo Mary Jo

I love the clothes and hairstyles in that series... Will try to make a Downton Abbey inspired hairstyle tomorrow evening when I'm going to a ball! (I have the feeling I'll need to keep things simple, but I'll give it a go ;)

Ha, I totally agree, I find myself wishing for more from the servants quarters than the upstairs. All their little dishes, the tables, the kitchen!

I am also definitely in the recuperating stage of the holidays, taking it easy and slow and just enjoying the quiet. xo

Happy new year my friend. Like you, I am so excited for the US premiere of season 3. You are so right about the servant's table being the perfect farm table. I could do with some of those dishes too. I hope your 2013 is off to a great start. Looking forward to what new bags you have lined up for the year.
