art inspired: john william waterhouse, the annunciation
Wednesday, December 5, 2012

There's something about the beginning of the holidays that always has a romantic feel it, so this Pre-Raphaelite version of The Annunciation by John William Waterhouse, felt like a good inspiration for all the holiday style choices cropping up as quickly as fall ended. With its rich colors and precise classical spacing, this sweet rendition holds a place in the realm of holiday art as well as captures the Romantic style of the early 1900s.
Gabriel's ethereal lavender and deep purples are one end of the spectrum, inviting a bit of sparkle and whimsy...

On the other end of the spectrum is Mary's dramatic cobalt ensemble with red accents.

I love that purple dress!
Absolutely gorgeous outfits, Mary Jo! x
I absolutely love the dramatic cobalt look, Mary Jo. I wouldn't say no to a cobalt blue dress for the night between years. :)
Love the whimsical elements here Mary Jo. You always have the best eye for these things!
That lavender color is absolutely stunning, and I love the cobalt with red! Brilliant combo!

Hello Mary Jo! I hope I'll have a bit of both as the holiday will give me the chance to take some time off, so enjoy some comfortable clothes, but it's also time to wear a lot of nice dresses! I saw your leo-print accessory collection on Ada's blog...so nice!
I always enjoy how your translate art into fashion Mary Jo. I happen to be wearing lavender cords with a silver sweater today so I'm light and sparkly at the moment :)

I love that painting. It is quite modern, very different from the Annunciation paintings. My favourite is the Lilac palette. So stylish.
Lovely Mary Jo! I would wear both the dramatic electric blue with red and of course the purple that is my first choice ever! I imagine we will find some purple in your collection, right? :* Have a lovely weekend
