I've always loved the Chanel No. 5 ads. Ever since Marilyn Monroe announced that she only slept wearing a few drops of No. 5, the world's most beautiful and famous women have posed as the face of Chanel No. 5, making it one of the best selling fragrances in the modern world.  Now for the first time in 90 years, a male face of Chanel N°5 is debuting--Brad Pitt.

What do you think? Shock value or a creative leap that Coco herself would've approved of? Check out the video below for a whimsical flight through the history of Chanel No. 5.

I think it's great!! About time too. As much as I love girl power and all, it makes a refreshing change and I think they chose a perfect man for it too. Anyone else and I don't think it would have worked as well. He's very laid back and has an understated elegance to himself that I like. And he's one of the few men that is aging so well :) Love this. Happy Monday doll, I hope your weekend was bliss. Have a gorgeous new week :) xox

Superb film! Loved the voice too. I've always loved the Chanel No. 5 ads too (especially the older ones: the new perfume ads, generally speaking, very often fail to tell a story), although I don't like the scent. As for Brad Pitt as the new face of Chanel No. 5, I'd go for shock value.
Have a great week, Mary Jo!

Chanel No 5 is such a classic to me. I love Brad Pitt, but he doesn't resonate as a classic man in my books. I like that they are using a man, but I think they could have found someone more.. distinguished.

Oh I agree I think it is great and Brad is the perfect choice! I remember it was one of my moms favorite perfumes.

I mean you can't go wrong with Brad Pitt hehe but his ad is very weird. Just him talking in a husky voice. Surprised they paid him 7 million for that!

I really adore Brad! However, I would've preferred a more polished Brad Pitt in these adds. It was definitely SHOCK for me to see him in dreads etc. I have nothing against dreads, but those images don't seem to resonate with the usual Chanel brand. But maybe that's a good thing, because people who wear dreads etc LOVE CHANEL too!!! So I need to let go of the stereotyping mentality! HAHAHAHA

Sorry, but I don't get it. Plus, Brad has been looking sort of haggard and scruffy lately. Not really fitting of the brand image. If they HAD to go with a male, I would've preferred someone less obvious, like maybe Eric Dane.

I was shocked when I first read about this, but I like the idea of a male face of the brand. Brad generally has an effortlessness about his sophisticated look. Perhaps they could have made him a bit more polished as the older ads, but maybe that's their whole concept of rough elegance. Wishing you a wonderful week. xx/Madison :)

OMG I loved loved loved watching that video!!! I guess Chanel No. 5 has had so many firsts, so it's about time for them to have a male representing it, right? And who better than Brad Pitt?!? :)

Such an enjoyable video. This is one of my go to fragrance for a long time. As for the choice of who is the face of a fragrance, I personally never cared, it never made a difference with me.

Chanel No. 5 is such a classic. While I am for the shock of having a male face for the perfume and I like the video, I am maybe the only girl around who isn't really a Brad Pitt fan.

Love this!!!!!!
I have been a Chanel fan for a long time!!!!
I have always loved the ads!!!!
How have you been?
Have you bought any cool vintage lately?
I bought a vintage 70's pink fur & leather cape; the pink hue is really pretty- like a dusky pink.
Wishing you a fabulous week!!!!

Wow, I didn't know about this. It's a pretty bold move for such an iconic brand, but he is looking good!

I'm not happy with this ad. That must be something more polished and in my opinion if it is ever have to be a man it must a very musculine name. more brutal i'd say than Brad.

I saw the ad for the first time yesterday and my husband was quick to point out that it was the first time that something had my full attention all day. I was totally captivated by his voice - something different for sure, but I loved it!

It's a pretty cool film! The concept reminds me a bit of l'odyssee de cartier, which traces back the origins of the brand!

I think it's rather brilliant for a man to be advertising Chanel No. 5. I'm not really a fan of Brad Pitt though and I think they could've cleaned him up abit.

I have never bought a perfume based on adds, but perhaps I am different, as I want naturals that have been hydro-distilled rather than created in a lab, so that is what turns me on, the quality and level of soul in the material not a a man or women or add...

I haven't made up my mind about his ad campaign... I really like the man, but can't say it 100% agrees with me...

Have you seen a No. 5 story on my blog - wrote it last year as a part of Chanel week... :)

For some reason I'm not really shocked? Why is that? Hmm... while I've always loved Chanel No. 5's campaign, I've never been a bit fan of the scent. I could see how men could easily wear it, with its rich spices and earthy tones.

On the fence MJ!!I am thinking though that Coco may approve and the change will hopefully be a good thing! After all she was queen of the adrogynous style

Really love the French accent of the woman presenting Chanel no. 5 history. I am not particularly attracted by its scent, I prefer Coco Mademoiselle, but never say never, right? About Brad, I was shocked when I found out and did not understand, but I think they wanted to refresh the image and shock, right? Have a lovely day :*
