CAT SHY

Anyone who's ever suffered at the sharp claws of a catty kitty instinctively knows all the reasons to shy away from cat-eye glasses. Just the connotation is enough to conjure memories of mean girl incidents where you're told about a party/baby shower/brunch but then never actually invited. If you've had traumatic run-ins with catty girls you're probably skiddish about purchasing anything connected with the word cat...but there are some kitten steps that can help.
RECOVERY STEP #1: UNDERSTANDING CATTY KITTIES

Manhattan life coach Julie Melillo, has some answers about catty women. She says, "Quite simply, it makes them feel better -- it's the same dynamic as bullying. Seeing someone in pain makes them feel powerful. It's similar to a 4th grader stealing someone's lunch money, just to see if he can make another kid cry. It makes this kid, or this 'mean girl' feel important." Karol Ward, a licensed psychotherapist says "catty" women feel the need to put others down because "they have thwarted ambition and need to manipulate others to achieve what they want, have feelings of self-hatred or desire for attention that has been unfulfilled."
RECOVERY STEP #2: RX FOR CAT SCRATCHES

Understanding why mean girls are mean is all well and good, but how do you keep from getting scratched? The advice of Jane Kaiser, a life advice coach for teenage girls is to "be willing to see them for what they are--scared. True friendliness and a gentle demeanor will douse the flames of jealousy and ignorance. Ignore your natural instincts to sink to their level and fuel them on--you're better than that!" Meow!
RECOVERY STEP #3: CAT-THARTIC

My advice: embrace cattiness--celebrate it's beauty and glamour--whoa, I don't mean catty girls, I mean cat eye glasses! Channel your inner Anna Dello Russo and have fun! And so begins the search for the perfect pair. There are hundreds on the market, but I'm partial to Tom Ford, Linda Farrow and The Row. Who makes your favorite pair?

Top left clockwise: The Row Cat Eye glasses $445; Dior Cat Eye glasses $295; Tom Ford Madison glasses $425; Linda Farrow for The Row $363; Tom Ford Eyewear $360; Tom Ford Katrine glasses.
WHY CATS HAVE 9 LIVES

For anyone looking to embrace their inner kitty at a discount, I'm selling my barely worn Tom Ford sunnies. I adore them but they don't suit me as well as the Tom Ford Madison cat eye glasses which are better suited to the shape of my face. Luckily I have at least 9 chances to get it right. Kitty cats please tell me about your favorite pair. Will you be embracing your inner catty-eye this summer?

Love those..I've been after some for ages!! And I know quite well of catty girls at school, don't know why girls tear each other up so much, especially when the world does that enough. Just love these :))) xx

I love the shape but i am afraid i just don't think it suits my face.
Good lucking hunting for your perfect pair!

What a fun post! Love the sunglasses, don't like the cattiness so much.
This is such a humorous post. Thanks for the giggles. I don't own a pair of cat eye sunglasses, but I'm working on fixing that. I love French Kitty.

Loved reading this! The cat eyed sunnies are too cute, but whenever I put them on me, they look somewhat strange. For that reason, I think I'd go for the "intelligent" ones! Less catty, I think.

This is such a cute post. I've never looked good in this shape... Not 50's enough to wear them... Ha!
Your "True Kitty" pick is my favorite! I actually haven't owned true cat eye glasses, I am always scared that they will look too forced on me! But hey, the right pair could change that!
As a cat and fashion lover, I am literally swooning over this post, Mary Jo! :)
Nice colors and lovely style!
this is a fun post and i love the glasses!
I love the 50's era and also cat eye style shades too, I recently invested in a pair of tortoiseshell cat eye frames, a la Taylor Tomasi Hill!
