Art Inspired: Roy Lichtenstein, Interior with Skyline

Who doesn't think of the iconic Girl with Ball when they think of Roy Lichtenstein? Or his giant Benday dot comic paintings dripping with irony? Roy Lichtenstein launched the Pop Art movement of the 1960s by bringing advertisements and comic-strips into the world of fine art. His instantly recognizable flat style and colors drenched in midcentury sensibility couldn't be more spot on for what's happening in fashion.

The reason I chose Lichtenstein's Interior with Skyline for this week's art inspired fashion post is partially because it reminds me of Don Draper's new Manhattan apartment--and if you caught Mad Men's season kick off this week, then you're probably humming Zou Bisou Bisou as I type. When you think of midcentury, it usually brings up thoughts of Eames Lounge chairs or a Naguchi coffee table, but seen everywhere from Prada's splashy flames for Spring to the consumate Jil Sander Fall 2012 collection worthy of a January Jones entrance, midcentury has become one of fashion's biggest trends.

p.s. Our Newport Harbor bags are making their way into the shop and were designed to have a bit of midcentury sensibility.

set-1

Details: Marc by Marc Jacobs Polka Dot shirt, $230;  Miu Miu Cat Eye Sunglasses, $390; Nixon Navy Watch, $495; Jil Sander Yellow Ballet Shoes, $425; Chloe Straight-leg twillpants, $615; Mary Jo Matsumoto Avalon Anchor Tassel Key Fob, $76; Mary Jo Matsumoto Newport Harbor Oversized Clutch, $452; Diane von Furstenberg Tweed Jacket, $865.

Are you adding midcentury flair to your wardrobe this spring?

OOps don't think my comment went through as one of my kids was signed in...Loving all the mid-century shots of colour but still so very wearable and modern. Your tassels are divine. Saving up until all the Mad Men is done and I can watch all at once..
