marni and h&m: are you on the fashion collab train?

Thursday, February 23, 2012

For the most part I watch high fashion spin-off collaborations with interest but not intent. My one and only attempt to participate in one was a bit like being on the wrong train in a Fellini film, where all I managed to walk away with was a zigzag baby blanket, while more stealthy shoppers wheeled out Missoni luggage crammed with Italian chevron prints.

I vowed to avoid all future fashion stampede scenarios, but the new Marni collaboration with H&M has me dreaming of windswept summer adventures, and waiting for March 8--the day this collection hits H&M--feels like an eternity! I've been sitting on these photos like a mother hen, hoping to simultaneously hide them from the world {much too late} and/or even better, magically hatch them in my closet without leaving my nest.

LADIES_N_11

She of the kooky 40s hat askew had me at hello.

Oooh, it's that hat again!

And I'll take those fake bakelite handcuffs to go!

Have you found pieces in this new collaboration that you're pining for?

Thank you to the press people at Marni at H&M who sent over these lovely images photographed by Josh Olins

I think this is a beautiful collaboration, there are so many interesting great pieces. But no I don't have my eye on any of the items, as I would go insane from the effort it would cost to get some. Unless your lucky online;) I hope you can get what you want!

I completely agree with you MJ! After getting into a battle royale over Versace for H&M, I decided that I had, had enough. The Marni collection is quite chic though. I'm particularly fond of the jewelry and sunglasses. The women's apparel is far superior to the menswear, however, so I'll probably sit this one out. Jason Wu for Target sort of came and went. Did anyone even participate? Ultimately, these collaborations are starting to get a bit gimicky and I don't like the idea of competing for the privledge to spend my hard earned money.

First time I've seen these pics and they make me want to drive right down to H and M now. Marni is one of the faves - the combo of great cuts and ethnic cool - but have never been able to pull the trigger because of price. These are perfection

This is my dream collaboration and (as I did for the Lanvin capsule collection) I'm ready to be outside of H&M very early in the morning to get the pieces I would like to get...Looking at the entire collection (and making my wish-list) made me so happy!

It is strange--- I LOVE checking out the collaborations, but just don't have it in me to battle the masses for them!
But I really love this collab-- it feels like fashion. Does that make sense??

Let me know what you score???

You know fashion is as much about wanting to be like the girls that wear them as the lifestyle the clothing portray...

I just don't get Marni at all, at school our eccentric art teachers all wore clothes like this so that's all I think of when I see anything by Marni. One of my chums however wears Marni almost exclusively, it always makes me say " hmm, well if you like it"

I know exactly how you feel, Mary Jo. This is clearly the H&M collaboration I look forward to the most, but I don't know if I'm up to fighting the crowds when it arrives in stores. I love the dress in the last photo and oh, that hat! xo

I like this SO much better than the Versace collaboration! I barely think anyone bought those clothes. Probably no one in Sweden, at least, too much colour pattern craziness.

Hi Mary Jo!
Thanks for your sweet comment on my small blog :D So here I am and visiting your versatile and stunning blog.

Naaah to the H&M Marni collaboration from my side... I'm not a Marni fan at all - however the cuffs look pretty cool from here.

Happy weekend to you!

ooohhh, these are lovely pieces! i like them a lot. H&M has some great designers but i don't think i can handle a mob scene. plus i feel like they're always still really pricey!

I so love Marni, and I can so NOT afford Marni, but H&M plus Marni? Yes maybe. Oh but the crowds. I don't know if I can do it. Sigh...
