art inspired: frida kahlo, the frame

frame

Like many artists Frida Kahlo was as well known for her personal life as her art, and while she chronicled her complicated relationship with Diego Rivera in many of her paintings, she's best known for her self portraits. Today's art inspired fashion post draws on The Frame, which was the first work by a 20th century Mexican artist to be purchased by the Louvre. Celebrated in Mexico as indigenous folk art, embraced by feminists, Frida was also labeled a "surrealist" once André Breton described her art as a "ribbon around a bomb". I've always loved The Frame because of the beautiful colors and overlay of glass on the painted aluminum, and these colors are echoed in many Spring 2012 collections.

Love those sandals......
Please can I have them...
Yes, to the bright colors..
Colors have a living presence in them and a life energy, even in healing work colors are often missing from trauma scenes, for instance, if a person had a mother that had abandon them early in life all their journeys with me have a missing pink and or brown to them...

I love everything about this post. This painting is so amazing. Thank you for reminding me of it. You have done that so many times before and it always brightens up my day when i see a painting i love but haven't seen in a while.
I can't wait for the spring to come and to indulge in these colours!

And so sorry to hear about copy cats in your last post. It is so wrong on so many levels. But each to theirnown, i suppose.

Have a lovely day.
