art inspired: eric fischl, the bed, the chair, waiting
Tuesday, January 17, 2012

In a season where neutrals shot with color is the banner trend, I felt inspired by one of my favorite painters of nudes. Eric Fischl's work depicting the dark side of suburban life was not originally embraced as legitimate art, but today he's considered to be one of the most influential figurative painters of this century. Fischl's work often has a hit of bright color tempered by light and shadow and seemed a perfect foil for some of resort/spring's newest arrivals, not to mention my new Naked At the Beach 4FREE Nail Color trio has just arrived!
How do you feel about nudes/neutrals with shots of color?

p.s love your previous post - Am big on bold colour, especially for summer. Off to find you on twitter doll.
I'm not familiar with Eric Fischl's work so thanks for the introduction. I think color provides a great punch to nudes/neutrals. Your polish colors are super pretty!
I feel warm and fuzzy about shots of color in a more natural back drop...
Love that coat... and your polish is wonderful, I would buy them if I wore polish...

I LOVE that silk coat - it has such a boudoir vibe to it. And the new nail shades are stunning...there is something about subtle color that simply cannot be beat! :)
I love this series! And the inspiration
The painting is beautiful and I would love to have that lovely armchair, the print is simply great! As for clothes, I have a soft spot for neutral shades, especially beige, as they are great 'canvas' to sport eccentric necklaces...
I love nudes with a BIG burst of color. That is my favorite thing to do with my outfits.

Mary Jo - I've missed you - blow this skiing! (or non skiing) I am a total shot of colour person, especially orange and this is perfect for me!
I can't pull off these colors, but I sure do admire them. They are so beautiful and looks so gorgeous with pops of bright colors.
I love neutrals and I like anything contrasting but red I am not really sure why...
am a bit of a fan of nudes with a splash of colour...loved Heidi Klum on GG red carpet this week total knockout!! The necklace and matching ring if only!
Carla x
i love this painting mary jo, very cool! i'm going to further check out his work! and i love all of these gorgeous picks here, that ring is amazing!!
xo, k
Amazing painting! I love neutrals with shots of colour in fashion as well. Very much I might add. When I saw your outfit here I immediately thought of the Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2012 collection, the blush lace dress with the lipstick being the only splash of colour. Mary Jo, your Naked At The Beach nail polish trio is gorgeous! xo

i love all the details.. the first picture is really beautiful! i would love to have a chair like that at home :)

Neutral with brights, that was my favorite combo last Summer. Actually it still is, I love it very much. Especially with orange, like the silk coat.
Oh this is beautiful! The items you chose really capture the same mood!

*and there was the dark coloured clutch in the collection too. Mary Jo, you've inspired me to dream up my favourite colour palette for next season. xo
I'm a huge fan of nudes and blushes. Spots of color would look great. :)

Favorite.
i love your trio of nail polishes, especially this nude combination and how amazing is this painting? wow.
neutrals with a touch of coulour, like red, look great! just like angelina jolie did in the golden globes!
I'm normally more comfortable mixing black with shots of color, but I really want to experiment more with pale neutrals and shots of color this spring/summer. Love the soft palette with the bright orange that you picked out. I know you were inspired by the painting, but I just was "My Week with Marylin" and I find the colors really remind me of her wardrobe in the film. So feminine and soft yet glamorous!
