eye on style: louise at the taupe
Friday, November 11, 2011
Last week Louise was kind enough to ask me to stop by her blog, The Taupe, and I'm even happier that this week I get to share Louise's elegant and classic style. The way she's dressed is so beautiful--doesn't she look just like part of a fall layout in your favorite fashion magazine?

name: Louise
occupation: As much as I love pretty things, I’ve always been a technophile. During the day I work digital marketing magic for a publisher. My job and blog let me enjoy both worlds.
location: Brussels, Belgium.

wearing: Ancient camel cape, scarf knitted for me by a friend’s mum, Ralph Lauren sweater, Zara jodhpurs, Prada bag, Céline boots.
favorite designers: I’m a bit fickle, so it’s a long and changeable list, I’m afraid! Tod’s – I wish I could live in their book, The Italian Touch. For me, the epitome of casual elegance. Ralph Lauren for their cable knits and polo shirts; I adore WASPy style. Ferragamo’s shoes, scarves and bags. MaxMara and Michael Kors – elegant, clean-lined goodness.
On the highstreet – Massimo Dutti, Scapa, Chance, Tory Burch, Ipekyol, and LK Bennett. If I’m honest, I can get (almost) everything I need from these. Oh, and if I lived in the States, my home would be a J Crew store.
What style means to Louise: Like most people, I use clothes as another medium through which to express my personality (what do camel, navy and taupe say about someone, I wonder?). They’re also great for helping me deal with being quite timid.
I find it easy to take fashion a bit too seriously, though - to be blinded by trends and wear stuff which looks really rather silly. Whenever I feel myself being caught up by the latest unflattering shape or crazy color I try and imagine what my other half would say. He’s great at dissolving any Vogue/Sartorialist-fuelled illusions I have.
Comfort, simplicity, elegance: my style principles. At the risk of sounding like my dear grandmother, I have to admit that my hems keep getting longer, my heels lower, and my colors blander. I’m a big believer in the “don’t let the dress wear you” saying and Chanel’s quote about always removing one item before leaving the house. Lots of rules, but still – it’s all good fun!
Thank you Louise for such a wonderful glimpse into your personal style!
p.s. For those of you who haven't yet ventured over to my new west coast street style blog, On PCH, Fridays are always fun! Since part of life along the PCH means cutting out early and heading to the beach, hope you'll stop by for a little Surf Friday enjoyment!

Ohmigosh Mary Jo what a fabulous person to feature - I LOVE Louise's style.
Also, I can't help but to agree with her regarding trends...it can be so hard to get caught up in bits of fashion that aren't you simply because they're "on-trend" at the moment. Finding your own fashion voice is key! :)
She looks marvelous, love the style and setting!! x
I seriously want her entire outfit. So trendy yet so classy at the same time. Love it!
