my looks for karen millen
Thursday, October 27, 2011
Last week I was invited to put together some looks from the new Karen Millen shop which recently opened at Bloomingdale's Beverly Center. Karen Millen is a British fashion company, renowned for offering versatile investment pieces and attainable luxury. Celebs like Rihanna, Eva Longoria, and Taylor Swift are fans, and after trying on a few pieces myself, I am too!
For my first look, I pulled the pieces I most wanted to wear myself!

I love the French/preppy ingenue feel of the stripey sweater with skinny jeans and riding boots. The red Karen Millen coat seemed like an obvious choice, but I used the milky white coat instead. White is so fresh in the winter, and gives the outfit a more elegant feel. Counter-balanced with the cross-body bag, I like how the look became polished every day wear. What do you think?

I love a jewel toned dress for the holidays, especially when it's worn with a plush coat like this one, which was a heavenly velvet that had a cropped fur feel--just gorgeous! I also liked the little surprise pop of purple satin heels. Of course a girl needs a clutch with this look, so I tucked the long chain into the bag and voila--she has a black mini-audiere to complete the look!
The last look started with the kilt skirt which has the feel of an American Indian blanket.

In case you haven't shopped Karen Millen's line before, there is a dizzying array of knitwear to chose from, so narrowing down the top was the hardest part! I loved this versatile black and white zip cardigan that slipped easily under the streamlined moto jacket. (If I were wearing this myself I'd have a black tee under the cardigan because I always want a look under a look, and layering is the only way to deal with west coast weather changes). I could not resist putting those over-the-knee boots on my model--for those who can pull it off, it's a great way to add sleek texture! And of course, I'm always about a great bag--love this soft doctor's bag.
Would you wear a leather jacket with a skirt?
A special thank you to Bloomingdale's and Karen Millen for this fun opportunity! BTW, this impossibly tall Size 0 model is not me, but was provided along with a fashion photographer courtesy of Bloomingdale's/Karen Millen.

All the looks are so stylish!
Love the looks! Especially that skirt. Also wishing I was taller so I could wear over-the-knee boots! ~jen
How fab that you got to do this!
I don't suit leather, especially black leather so I'd have to pass on that but I love what you've put together.
First of all I would like to say that I really love your new blog layout, Mary Jo! Second, the first look you've put together is by far my favourite, especially the top (I like the fact that it's not stripes all over, but a little different, much more interesting) and the choice of a milky white coat for winter. I am big fan of white coats in winter and I'm shopping around for my second one. :)
And finally, the mini skirt in the last look is gorgeous! I don't wear leather jacket with skirts, but I do pair it with dresses, a mix and match that never fails to look chic and modern.

PS: I don't think I have any chance with the Hallhuber jacket, I don't think they ship outside of Germany, but I'll have to check. I never learn my lesson and end up regretting not purchasing something I really love even though it's on the spur of the moment. My instinct is usually right. :)
Fab looks, I particularly love the first look, really suits you!

I love the last look---- so yes I would for sure wear a leather jacket with a skirt (and I do often!). Sounds like a fun experience... kind of grown up barbies
All the looks are perfect. I love this style, these colors.
It's very elegant.
Nice post Mary Jo.

Missing the Bloomingdales in Beverly Hills.
Great Combo's:)
Mary Jo! I love! Great picks. There is something about white for sure...it's just so soft and elegant. And I love the riding boots!
Love Karen Millen, used to buy her stuff in London and still visit the San Fran store, have two great dresses from there (one won on Sat night). Love the top and bottom styling, the bottom is very Portabello sixties hip but now. Stunning
Look at you, hot stuff! Loving the green dress!
I think that a leather jacket paired with a skirt is a cool way to add an edgy look to a feminine outfit. I do it quite a bit.

I love Karen Millen! I was not terribly impressed with her Summer line but for Fall this is amazing. The green dress is gorgeous! I bought my 30th birthday dress and shoes from Karen, the items are reasonable, the quality is amazing, and I love the styles!
