art inspired: rothko, no. 61 (rust and blue)

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

Mark Rothko, although often labeled a 'color field' painter, felt color was merely an instrument to convey basic human emotions--what critics called his "concern for tragedy, ecstasy and doom." I was 18 when I first saw his paintings in person, and kept going back to the Tate Gallery over and over to view his giant sorrowful, meditative paintings. His deep blues still inspire me and feel like such a perfect fit for fall.

Do you find yourself drawn to blue this season?

I have a cobalt blue dress that normal gets no use (not sure why...), but I have been wearing it quite a bit this fall! I guess I have been attracted to this trend!

Most definitely I am finding myself interested in exploring different shades of blue. Some are not so flattering on asian skintone, but others work well! I would love an herve leger dress...and you were in the tylie malibu store??? We don't have one in Chicago but I bet it is awesome :D

the inspiration is genius. I want to randomly pick a favorite painting for photo and try to make an outfit around it. it'll be hard, but you gave me a great idea!
