art inspired: milt glaser, i love new york
Tuesday, June 7, 2011

So entrenched in our consciousness is this familiar tourist tee, current trend dictates a deconstructed version at this late date, until fashion inevitably swings back and embraces the old school original. Some might say that's already happened. Regardless, I like this loose and easy ensemble with a cool pair of Converse--so perfect for a day in Central Park!

Are you like me, in a NY state of mind?
p.s. {couldn't resist adding in that golden tear drop to mirror all the great big owl tears shed over the whole etsy debacle}
Ray Ban ray ban sunglasses; Passarella Death Squad I Love NY White T-shirt 50 GBP; Rag and Bone blazer; Miss Selfridge gold chain pendant 14 GBP; Gucci messenger bag $4,250; Elizabeth and James silk short $207; Converse trainer $55; Mac lipstick $15.

I think I'm always in a New York state of mind. I seriously love the fast-paced, hustle and bustle of the city.
This look is so phenom, Mary Jo - I love the androgyny of it! :)
First, thanks for sharing the rebuttle... I am staying on the sidelines (I am just not well enough informed and I am INSANELY busy), but it is still interesting to read the other side of the argument (being part of the twitterverse I was well versed in the other).
Back to the look: Great casual cool. And your explanation for the gold tear drop: priceless.
Love this post! Thank you for showing me your blog, I'm following!
kisses
Beautiful set Mary Jo. Makes me want to go to New York and be 25 again.
Such a NY state of mind...love those shorts with the belt.

Who doesn't love the big apple..
Can't wait to be there in sep

I've been in a NY state of mind for quite some time. I would love to take on The Big Apple in a smart-casual outfit like this one. I don't like a casual look from head to toe (except for when I'm exercising or playing tennis), so this is so my style. :) Hope you have a beautiful day, Mary Jo! xo
I love visiting you because I learn so much, not least making me really think about what is art. Also is art and design the same thing? Also introducing me to other goings-on in the internet, just headed over to regretsy. The good news is: people are still passionate about ownership, art and design. Love this outfit so much, sort of Woody Allen and Diane Keaton had a wonderful well-adjusted daughter after all...
Thanks Jody, being compared to a later-day Annie Hall is the highest of compliments in my book ;)
xo
you just keep outdoing yourself on these artist inspired sets....
ugh...after reading all that i'm not convinced on either side of the 'truche' debacle, but after following all the links i am reconsidering my support of anthro, uo and fp........didn't know that about the chairman. i'm having a moral dilemma now....
hmmmm.
i wishi could pull off those converse...whenever i see you in sneakers i have mad tennis shoe envy. you look adorable...i look ridiculous.
This outfit is something I could live in for weeks on end :) I'm so in that NY state of mind after reading this!
Awesome collage!

Love the outfit! I agree with Whimsy Being - I could live in that! The necklace has me swooning!

Ahh I love OU but the whole twitter scandal has left me in a moral pickle! Loving the "I<3NY" look though, its so universal but still looks awesome!

I like this relaxed outfit a lot :) I like the I love roma tshirts!
I, in fact do LOVE NY and am in a NY state of mind often! Love the look you put together..just perfection! xo
This may horrify many, but I am not a big fan of NYC. I always feel stressed out when I am there.
love this post, Mary Jo. One of my best friend lives in NYC. Yourpost reminds me of him. Wonderful selection. Warm greetings to you
Beautiful look, mary Jo! Love NY! xoxoxo
Thank you so much for all your comments! You are very sweet! xoxoxo
I think the whole issue can also relate to other trend pieces like shoes, tops, bags. It's really hard to be completely original anymore.
Haha, love New York. Been bored & raised here & I don't think I own a I heart NY shirt yet!
Oh yes! You know, when the weather turns for the better and it's quite warm, I crave a trip to Manhattan. I have always gone during July/August for my Birthday... brings back so many great memories. I might have to put "Breakfast at Tiffany's" while working away today.
Hope all is well, Mary Jo, and that you are having a lovely week so far.
xoxo,
Sarah
Me, no, I guess I'm not in NY state of mind. It is a pretty fabulous city though. And the outfit is very cute.
Aww..I like that outfit a lot and I would totally wear it. That tee is amazing! Kisses, sweetie
Ps: I’m hosting a stunning 3 gold bracelets GIVEAWAY today! Fun pieces to spice up summer outfits!
love the casual chic menswear, especially with the touch of bright red lipstick! and it's funny because my girls both wore this onesie my sister bought that had the same "I LOVE NY" design on it when they were like 3 mo old!

Yes I'm also always in a NY state of mind, ever since I visited two years ago I deeply crave to go back! Thousands times if possible;) The outfit you've selected is fabulous, I'd definitely wear that when being in NY. It looks so chic and casual, I love that. Hope you have a great week.
Bravo, sweetie! What a great commentary on a difficult issue. I loved that article you linked--I'm a little out of the loop on these things and really appreciated your take on it!
Beautiful bag. Love your picks again. I would use the lipstick, and again... that bag. Luv!
