art inspired: banksy, barely legal

Known for sidestepping security and placing his satirical art in major museums along with stenciled graffiti that's popped up on walls and buildings around the world, Banksy is an anonymous England based graffiti artist whose identity has been much debated. Back in January an auction on eBay that offered to reveal his identity was removed, and it was rumored to have been placed by Banksy himself in order to pump up DVD sales of his Academy Award nominated {pseudo} documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop". The Daily Mail has allegedly outed Banksy's true identity, but no one seems to care about who the real Banksy is as much as what he has to say.

Deemed illegal and a "frivolous abuse" of an elephant which he had painted to look like pink wallpaper, today's art inspired fashion post looks to "Barely Legal," Banksy's first US exhibition in 2006, where he showed an elephant painted to blend in with a living room, symbolizing how the problem of world poverty is ignored. Here are some fun pieces inspired by Banksy's elephant in the room that will give your summer some instant pizzaz!

Fun stuff!
Also, you totally can't see the elephant in the image ;)

If only it were't so darn cold and sunless here again I'd put on my heart-shaped glasses and go outside. Now it's more like... layers of clothes and back to the early spring jacket.

Did you notice all the Baksy art that popped up during the academy awards throughout LA?! Such an interesting artist--- very thought provoking.

AND I adore that elephant ring. Although with my small hands I don't know if I could pull it off.

Makes you wonder what the experience was like of painting an elephant ... and what did the elephant think of his new color? ;) Love some of the pieces you chose, Mary Jo. A fun post for my studio Tuesday! xoxo

What I love about art, and fashion as a matter of fact, Mary Jo, is that it has an incredible power to raise awareness to major global problems in such a creative way. And people are receptive to it. You know, I do have an elephant pendant necklace, I haven't worn it recently, but maybe I will these days. ;)

My brother received a Banksy book for his birthday which I still have to take a better look into. Your fun elephant outfit idea's are great. Did you know they recently discovered elephants are way smarter than we knew before? Also, thank you so much for your sweet comment today:)

"Exit Through the Gift Shop" really blew my mind. I had heard about Bansky but I wasn't really that aware of him or the other street artists before I saw the movie. Then I realized that all those rat paintings that I saw all over town and wondered what the heck they were were his! So much of what they showed in that movie I saw in real life and was clueless about.

I love your elephant inspired collection!
