art inspired: sam francis, blue in motion iii

If any one could coin the term "Zen Chic" it would be Sam Francis. I remember gravitating to his work when I was in college and liking how he was different from other abstract expressionists with his light, almost water-color like paintings. And of course, I loved that unlike all the other art stars from that period, he used so much blue. What I didn't know was that Sam Francis' light hand is what gave him early success and made him the highest paid artist in the world for years, or that the great love of his life was Mako Idemitsu, the daughter of his biggest patron. The Idemitsu Museum in Tokyo now contains the largest collection of Francis' work in the world.

I can see why you feel for his artwork at college. I think it's beautiful and wouldn't mind at all to own a piece. Way out of my budget unfortunately ;-)
I love the look and would definitely rock it! That purse is super funky and would be a blast to carry.
