Hollywood Vintage Fashion

Vintage lovers, I have a rare and wonderful treat to announce! My good friend and vintage dealer, David Galvin, will be giving a talk with me next Saturday, April 16 at the Stephen Cohen Gallery in Los Angeles at 1pm. We will be discussing the influence of Hollywood Vintage Fashion on Modern Couture.

Los Angeles designers (known and unknown) have shaped so much of american fashion culture via the cinema and mass media; iconic images like Marilyn Monroe in Jax slacks or her famous Jean Louis "Happy Birthday Mr. President" dress are just a couple of examples. We will also be discussing some of the surprising reasons why vintage pieces often can't be worn 'as is' but how their timeless details still influence modern couture.
If you missed the reception a few weeks ago, hope you will swing by Stephen Cohen Gallery next Saturday at 1pm to join us for this short talk and take in the great fashion photography along with my new Artist Editions collection on display.
My Fall 2011 Collection is now Available!

My Fall 2011 collection can now be purchased online! You can be one of the first to shop the entire collection {which is also available in Petite and Plus sizing} over on the MaryJoMatsumoto.com website.

Wow Marilyn could do no wrong, how does she wear that dress and it's like a skin (and they didn't have our technology in those days). Love your black dress and heading over now to look at your whole collection. The long halter mentioned above sounds cool!

As a movie fashion and old Hollywood stars lover, I find your innitiative so inspiring and interesting. Your fall collection is so beautiful and stylish, my favourite items being the backless black dress and the grey outfit with the grey cape. The colours are also to my very personal taste, enhancing the elegance of the clothes. Have a wonderful day, Mary Jo! Ada

Truly, a return to a simpler life should include fashion of the time. I think women were women back in the forties and fifties. You could also say the same for men….
awesome! that your showing is extended!
I wish I was there to hear the talk, sounds like it is going to be a great one!!
