happy intention: happy mundane, chico hayasaki, designers' block, cafe fashionista

It's always a treat to meet up with my friend Jon from Happy Mundane for flea market/vintage excursions. Like the name of his blog suggests, Jon makes simple everyday things stylish and fun.
Jon's Happy Intention for 2011 is to "get out and go!" It seems to be really easy for me to get a little too comfortable in my own little world, and I'm always so inspired when I return from a trip, so my hope for 2011 is to make a conscious effort to get outside my comfort zone a little more, both physically as well as creatively- exploring new areas as well as new ideas and concepts. The future is bright and the future is now!

As many of you know, I love artists and have a soft spot for fashion illustrators, the unsung heroes of the fashion industry. Tokyo based illustrator Chico Hayasaki has a beautiful style that has always stood out for me as being a really unique voice, unlike anyone else's work. We have stayed in touch since our first interview four years ago, and I'm always blown away by her many accomplishments--Chico's work has been produced as a Red T-shirt for the Gap, featured in Elle, on multiple covers of Esthetique, produced on china plates--and she is much too humble to ever mention any of this to me. I can't wait to see her happy intention for 2011 become a reality!

Chico: One of my intentions for 2011 would be learning more about Cartonnage. I want to do Cartonnage with my fabric collections which will be out spring 2011. Working on fabric has been my dream for so long and I'm so excited. I am not good at sewing, so Cartonnage would be good for me I think.

Di Overton's blog Designers' Block is one of the first design blogs I fell in love with. Di is an amazing style scout and I love checking out her fabulous european finds. She's also a great designer and if you haven't checked out her witty surrealist Ghost Furniture designs, you're missing out!
Di: Now what is my Happy Intention for 2011? Well how about taking time to appreciate what I have. After reading the comments that people posted on Design Sponge last week, when my cottage was featured as one of their Sneak Peeks, I suddenly realised how lucky I am. Maybe taking time to stop and smell the roses would be a Happy Intention.
I always try and drop by Erika's blog Cafe Fashionista each day to keep things light and fun. Like a chocolate old-fashioned donut, Erika's blog is one of my guilty sweet pop culture pleasures, and I always come away with a song in my head and some fabulous piece of clothing added to my mental shopping list.

Erica's happy intention for 2011: ...to embrace change with open arms; and to soak up my surroundings and experiences like a sponge, transforming them all into creative entities. :)
So my dear, the New Year is almost here. Do you have a happy intention? Please share, I'd love to know!
