clouds in my coffee
Monday, March 1, 2010

Good morning! Please come in for a cup of coffee! As you can see from the title of today's post, it was a slightly nostalgic weekend--haha, I even provided the mood music on the left. The rain started on Friday night and kept up through Saturday, making it the perfect time to watch movies and go through some old photos. I saw Nine, which only added to the memory fest. My Fellini class was my most favorite class at Berkeley, and his movies shaped so many ideas I have about film, fashion, and great style.

A river of thoughts and emotions pass through your mind when you see the past in sharp focus--photos that make you laugh and also feel a little sad to see all those people and friends from the past, everyone looking so young and innocent. You start thinking back on all the bright personalities. I also noticed for the first time that every hair was always in place back in high school, I even pressed my tennis dresses back then. These days I tend to buy my clothes chic-rumpled or at least wear them that way so I don't have to bother.

The good thing about looking at the past for a moment is that it lets you see how fast time goes by and think about what's happening right now. I found myself pondering how can I better enjoy it all as it comes? And the past makes you take a look at where everything's going. What's important? How to make the important things priorities? Old pictures raise lots of good questions.
So tell me please, how was your weekend?
p.s. I'm going to extend the Trust Your Style perfume give-away until tonight and the winner will be announced tomorrow. There's still time to enter here (make sure to read the directions about commenting) if you'd like to win a bottle of my new perfume!

Sounds like a nice weekend. I have yet to see the movie Nine, but am looking forward to renting it when it comes out on DVD.
Looking at the past is always interesting and enjoyable especially if you like where you are today. Sounds like you've lived well, evolved and are able to appreciate where you've been. That is so significant. Enjoy your day. Love your coffee chats on Monday! =)

Great pictures...Great post. I had a Fab weekend. The South Florida weather was amazing.
These shots are amazing!!! When are you coming out to Malibu?
Oh, what a great pondering :) How do we enjoy it as it comes? I need to keep remembering that right now!
My weekend was delicious :) Yours?
i have a fabulous weekend...really fabulous. glad you had a good one too. it's good to do comforting things.
I had a lovely weekend, though I never made it to the farmer's market as I had hoped I would. I decided it was best to trade that time in and work on my schoolwork instead. But writing paper is always made easier when there's a plump kitty cuddling up next to me as I type.
I also completely agree with you -- looking back at the past does make you think about how to better enjoy the future.
Ode to the Past!! I know exactly what you're talking about Mary Jo, exactly those "feelings". When I read that Carly Simon had "given up" who the mystery man was in "You're So Vain" (clouds in my coffee...), I was disappointed. David Geffen?!? Oh please! But then, back in the day, he was "hawt" and he was somebody. Still, I preferred the mystique of wondering who it was. I'll never hear that song the same way again though...
And on facebook, someome posted a grade 8 class photograph. Looking at this weekend I remembered "who" I was at that age, what I thought, how I felt. It was so much more than that hair and clothes..it was seeing those people "captured" in that time bubble and all the physical and psychological memories pouring out.
Great post!
Old pictures, good questions. Very true.
My weekend was good! Had dinner with family to celebrate my little cousin's birthday and met up and an old college friend for lunch =)
You raised some really insightful thoughts in that it's important to take time to reflect on the past in order to make today more meaningful =)
How was the movie Nine?! I still need to see it! I've heard mixed reviews about it, but I still need to see the glamourous looks and dancing =)
Those photos remind my of one of my old favorite early 1980's ad campaigns from Charles David.
Waving curls, dark glossed lips, and big smokey eyes. I need to find a way to re-find those pages.
Sounds like a wonderful weekend, Mary Jo! Must see some Fellini films -- are there a few that you would highly recommend?
Reflecting upon memories and photos is such a great thing to do, I totally agree. Sometimes, I look back to remind myself of certain things I have learned, overcome, etc...
Hope you have a lovely Monday!
p.s thanks again for the giveaway gift :)
Your thoughts on the past is so very true.."how can I better enjoy it all as it comes"..it's only when something's gone do we realize the preciousness of the moment. I've wondered this a lot..I could have enjoyed that even better! OR I should have done a better job then..etc etc.
Weekend was fun..I tried cooking a new dish:D
I'm so looking forward to receive all your answers!!!
Take care and smile always:)

First, can I just say that I love you? You're So Vain by Carly Simon?! Ohmigosh one of my favorite songs EVER!!!!
Sorry my love - had to get that out of my system. I absolutely love the title of this post. I really would love to have a nostalgia-filled weekend myself - it sounds like so much fun! :)
I smell so great right now.. cocoa flora has truely made me feel special, as I know so little people know about it. Anyways I have been carring it around in my bag and always love putting it on knowing that its natural... I feel like I have said it before but I can't get over it.
This weekend some of my friends talked me into giving my number to the waiter I thought was dreamy.. We have seen eachother every day since :). Also he had nautical tatoos, and I had the perfect nautical necklace from you to wear as we walked next to the beach :) Too corny, and too wonderful heheh.
Last comment, about those pictures, I would so love to wear that bottom outfit on a rainy day.. xo
My weekend was mad as is every day at the moment. HELP!
