room with a view: jonathan's lovely bedroom

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Jonathan Lo of Happy Mundane is another blogger that I've always enjoyed reading since joining the blogging world over four years ago. Today we're getting a peek into his chic and peaceful bedroom. Enjoy!

mj: what did you have in mind when you put the room together?

jonathan: This house is actually the first one I've ever purchased. So, when it came to the bedroom, I really wanted it to feel "grown up." I always feel "grown up" when I stay in nice hotels, so that was the inspiration. Specifically, I recall a stay at one of the W hotels in New York that sparked the idea for the headboard. They're actually just two plain closet doors that I stained, and rigged with some velcro and some wood. I placed some strip lights behind for a glow.

mj: what do you love about it?

jonathan: It's just feels really comfortable and warm to me every time I come in. However, it also reminds me of where I've been and where I still want to go. About a year ago, I added the blue throw, which sparked a redo of the paint color for my master bathroom (which the bedroom opens up into)- before, I just had all neutral tones, but the blue just added another level, and i love the dark richness it brings.

mj: what you would like to change if anything?

jonathan: Lately I've been finding myself attracted to many things gray, black and white- I'm not sure what that means yet, but if I were to experiment, I think this would be the room to try it in... we'll see...

Thanks Jonathan for stopping by!

What a fabulous space! I like that it's masculine and understated but still very stylish--Jonathan's got great taste! My fave? That awesome corner with the white mid-century chair and the cool artwork.
