eye on style: crystal from plush palate

Happy Friday! Today's Eye on Style guest is Crystal, whose lovely blog, Plush Palate, always captures something beautiful that brightens my day--and she's as pretty as her blog! Enjoy!

name: Crystal

location: Chicago

occupation: publishing professional, freelance writer, blogger, and aspiring interior stylist

wearing: This photo is from a wedding I was at this past weekend and is pretty representative of my typical look so I thought it would be the perfect shot to illustrate my style. I tend to gravitate towards simple silhouettes and solid colors as the base for every outfit, like this little black dress from BCBG. I prefer my trendy pieces to come from accessories...like a killer leopard print scarf, bright red shoes, or a statement necklace like the one I'm wearing from J.Crew (it's actually bright yellow, but you can't tell). Because I'm on the petite side, I also stick to form-fitting clothes so my frame doesn't get lost in too much volume. As for shoes, you will never catch me without heels...unless I'm at the gym, of course! For me, heels complete every outfit and make me feel ladylike and classy. Here I'm wearing my beloved patent leather Jimmy Choos in nude. I picked them up at a consignment shop for about $150 - what I consider to be a bargain for a pair of Jimmys! They are my favorite because the skin toned color goes with everything and creates the illusion of longer legs!

favorite designers: I adore anything Stella McCartney! She has such a fantastic knack for creating balance between femininity and edge, and truly understands the female body! For coats, Burberry is unrivaled in my opinion. Their trenches, capes, and jackets are classic and timeless. I'm dying to have one in my own closet! And then there is Bottega Veneta - king of all purses! The interwoven leather design they have become known for is so exquisite and elegant that it makes those other designer purses covered in logos look juvenile in comparison! A little side note: I was once fortunate enough to attend a speech with BV's CEO and learned that it takes 3 Italian artisans 6 days to make just one purse - a true testament to the quality of their brand!

what style means to Crystal: To me, style is all about knowing who you are. It's about being confident in your choices and secure with what makes you special and unique. It comes from the inside out and starts by cultivating healthy self-esteem. How many times have we seen the girl who has us mesmerized, not by her outfit, but by the confidence with which she carries herself and the contentment in her eyes? If there is no substance behind the style, it shows, and clothes work only to mask your insecurities rather than complement your true beauty. Fashion comes and goes but being comfortable in your own skin is timeless. It's the only 'statement pieces' and the best 'investment piece' you could ever own!

Beautiful Crystal. First, you're gorgeous so you would look fab in anything! I agree with the classic and accessorize with the trendy that way your wardrobe lasts. The thoughts in the last paragraph are so true. I have seen gals in beautuful clothes carry themselves with their heads down, feeling self conscious, maybe insecure. That does show. I have also seen women in clothes gotten from the Salvation Army with their head held high! They look stunning. Its all about how one feels! Great thought Crystal. Made me think.
