I mentioned Chrissie White in a post recently and talked about how much I loved her photography. She's here today as an Eye on Style guest and was nice enough to answer a few more questions I had about her work. Enjoy!



name: Chrissie White

occupation: Student/part-time photographer

location: Seattle, Washington

wearing: I'm wearing a pink pea coat that I bought at a local thrift store, Mossimo heels from Target, a brown and white slip dress from a market in Hong Kong, and floral tights from forever 21

favorite designers: My favorite designers are Luella, and Miu Miu. I love Luella because all of her clothes are very frilly and she does a lot of florals! Which I adore! I'm really into cutesy things, especially when they're paired with something edgy like a leather jacket! Miu Miu to me is very chic and expensive looking but at the same time very wearable, which I love! Of course sadly, I cannot afford to buy from either designer so I opt for vintage stores and flea markets which I will always love!

what style means to Chrissie: Style to me is a reflection of how creative that individual is. I will always believe that good style is an art like painting or taking pictures, you must take into account your mood, colors, shapes, textures, the only difference is you live your life in what you wear!

mj: How did you get into photogragphy?

chrissie: I used to sew a lot, and one day I came accross these cute little dolls called 'blythe' I bought one to design clothing for, and soon found that I much prefered to take pictures of her than design for her! From then on I spent much of my time learning and growing in my photography. Plus, I'm horrible with words and the great thing about photography is you don't need to say anything!

mj: Who would you say influences your work?

chrissie: I'd have to say every single person I've ever met! Sure I am influenced by other photographers such as Glen Erler or Gregory Crewdson, but they don't influence my work nearly as much as the people I encounter on a daily basis do.

mj: Your photos are so other-worldly, what inspires your photos--how do you come up with the set ups?

chrissie: Funny thing is I don't do many set ups these days, I'm much more inspired (lately) by "real-life" and how awkward it really is. But when I do things like set-ups I'm trying to re-create individual stories that change depending on how the viewer sees them. Mostly, I'm inspired by people and individual objects.
