My father passed away yesterday afternoon after a long and valiant struggle with ALS. I really appreciate all the kind words that so many of you have expressed--it means a lot to me.
I always loved this photo of my dad--it was on the cover of a home builder's magazine back in the day and it really captured a part of who he was. Not to mention he always wore a coat and tie every day to work. I don't have a lot to say except that I am already missing him.

Mary Jo ~ I have been reading your blog for awhile but today I just had to comment. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. What a handsome man he was in this picture. I lost my Dad several years ago. It is sooo very hard. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I was sorry to hear this. In one sense, there is a hole which will never be filled. Perhaps such place-markers are as vital as they are painful. The strength of memory will serve you, and the presence of that spirit will always be with you.

I'm so very sorry. I know you loved him with all your heart and that he meant the world to you. I'm sure it feels like you will never recover but in time your wounds will heal and you will be able to keep going...knowing that he would be and was so proud of you.

Mary Jo I am so sorry for your loss. ALS is such a sad disease, I am so sorry. I did a walk a year or so ago to benefit ALS. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers!!!
