that color looks gray8 on you!

The Diebenkorn from my Fall 09 inspiration board

I won't lie, gray is my favorite color and has been for the last three to four years. I like it so much I had my whole house--all the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living room--everything--painted shades of gray! It's probably not a huge secret that my new fall line is also gray.

{a little sneak preview from my line}

Here are 8 gray8 reasons to wear gray:
1. Gray is easy on the eye and looks good on almost all skin types
2. Gray goes beautifully with almost all colors from pastel to primary
3. Gray is the color of the sky on most days
4. Gray is honest and cautiously optimistic (really!)
5. Gray makes any outfit or piece of furniture look a little more sophisticated
6. Gray lovebirds are rarely seen in captivity
7. Gray will be here big time for at least the next ten years
8. GRAY IS THE NEW BLACK. There. I said it.

Fortunately I design with colors before I come up with silly reasons as to why. I just sort of know what's going to be happening (it's one of my few and true talents) and my business partner knows enough to not laugh when I make outrageous claims--like 10 years ago when I told him designer jeans were going to come in big, the way they were in the Calvin Klein heyday and did he want to help me start up a company? He didn't believe me, but he never laughs now when I tell him I have a feeling about something.

Today Cassandra over at coco + kelly posted my thoughts about the colors to be, so if you're interested, click on over. And just so you know, I don't really sit down and come up with reasons to use colors, I just know what I like and kind of think you might like it (eventually) too. Hoping I'm right!

gray is my favorite as well...any color seems to pop next to the backdrop and compliments of gray, doesn't it? :) I also agree with what you had said about skin tones and gray...I am a fair redhead with blue eyes and a large part of my wardrobe is gray as well...great post!

Hi Sarah, thanks for stopping by--did I forget to mention? Gray looks absolutely smashing on red heads especially. If I could get all red head models for my line I would be in heaven. Unfortunately they're not so easy to find!

That is so funny you are posting about this because I was organizing my clothes today and realizing how much I love all my gray apparel. Your sneak peak makes me want to see more. I can't wait!

Thanks Rachel. I was wondering if people in super tropical climates wore gray and now I know. But then again, I live in the sunniest most perfect weather place of all california and can't get enough of gray, so there you go.

Oh my goodness Mary Jo---that sneak peak is simply stunning! I love the sculptural details. This piece looks SO incredibly beautiful yet completely wearable at the same time. A hard balance to achieve but you've done it! No surprise of course...

Anne, thank you so much for your support! It always makes me nervous to open up and show my own stuff, but that day is inevitable...

Di, I always stop myself and wonder if I'm spelling it correctly--but it is indeed gray here in the US. Sort of like colour and color I guess. If I ever take the line to the UK, I'll have to change it :)

Thanks Megan for stopping by--hope I will have more to show you soon!
