project runway: do you want to wear it?

Leanne's final collection

Okay, back to fashion today. The Project Runway finale was last night and the winner was Leanne, who I sort of suspected might win all along because of her technical skills. I can see why she won, although I did cringe when Heidi said she'd never seen anything like it--to me it was a pretty clear homage to Charles James. I guess it's okay to copy designers as long as they're not alive and currently showing in Paris.

My favorite outfit from the finale: Korto's top and pants

Unless I'm wowed by the overall presentation (the way Christian's final collection killed it last year), I'm mostly asking myself, is this something I'd ever wear, want to wear, could show up someplace and look great (but not freaky) wearing?

Great yellow dress by Korto

I wasn't sure what Korto would do for the finale, but I kept thinking as her pieces went down the runway, that's great, love the silhouette! I would totally wear that! I'm sad she didn't win because I really loved her final collection.

I'm not a fan of wedding dresses in general, but I even loved Korto's wedding dress. So chic, with just enough ruffle to make it a stand out piece, without looking too frou frou. There's no way I'd ever wear Leanne's double pouf wedding dress although I could marvel for hours at the workmanship. I think this is where fashion divides for me; I love well-made garments with beautiful details, but want to want to wear them too. I thought Michael Kors really had a great explanation about what makes a great fashion show in his Project Runway blog. Click here to read it.
