After I checked out the new Phantom Sightings show at LACMA, (it was wonderful and disturbing and I'll be writing more about it in the next few days) I had a ton of work-related errands to run. One of them took me down to Venice Beach where I managed to snap the shot of the kitchy cool Venice sign without crashing my car. The candy colored surf boards in the window of Mollusk Surf Shop caught my eye and since I'm always a sucker for a good surf shop, I had to pop in and check it out.
Brett, the owner of Mollusk Surf Shop, (on the left) told me that all the surf boards that they sell are made in California. Believe it or not, I check out every surf shop I come across--they usually have great personal style and lots of fun outsider art. I liked the light and bright atmosphere, cool books and tees at Mollusk. Most of all it was just a fun place to distract myself from work for a few minutes. If you're ever down this way, check out Mollusk Surf Shop at 1600 Pacific Avenue, Venice, CA.
