ugh. the ugg-ly truth!

It's been awhile since I've read through the glut of Friday style questions that have been submitted to tys--"Do these shoes make my ankles look fat? How many cupcakes do you think I can stuff into these pockets? Will a black Speedo make me look skinnier? Where did this baby come from?" And I had to laugh. At least Trust Your Style readers have a sense of humor!
It's Friday (at last!) and it's been a grueling week for a lot of us. The wheels of the new year have started churning and the overall feeling is one of slogging to catch up. Sigh. Since I'm feeling a bit blah after scurrying to make up for the last couple of weeks lost to the holidays, I thought it would be a good day to pay homage to all those Star War freaks (I mean that lovingly) out there--you know who you are! I want to clarify by saying that until reading Pedro's question I simply assumed that Hoth was an off shoot of Hogan, a sister line of killer Italian pumps, and that wampas and tauntauns were the latest LVMH handbags. Silly me.

From Pedro comes this fabulous style question for herstyle*hisstyle:
Uggs??? Do people miss Star Wars?? Do women want to look like they are on patrol on the planet Hoth (Hoth is the sixth planet in the remote system of the same name. It is a world of snow and ice, surrounded by numerous moons. Small meteorites that have wandered away from a nearby asteroid field constantly pelt Hoth's icy surface. This icy world has developed a number of indigenous lifeforms, including the wampa ice creature and the tauntaun...The daytime temperatures of Hoth were bearable for properly dressed humans, but the Hoth nights are too hostile even for the native creatures.)??

mj: Excellent question. I think I will pass the torch to Ministry of Sound, who has spent a great deal of time analyzing this conundrum. For more, click on their not-to-be-missed answer: the rights and wrongs of Ugg boots.
Pedro also wanted to know why girls wear belts on dresses with no belt loops and why so high waisted, but I think that's a questions for another day...
Have a great weekend everyone and if you have time, check out the new MJM store, which should be launching sometime today!

Finally!! An UGG hater other than myself. Why ppl wear them, I have no idea.
They make feet look big! and are completely unflattering!! Just because some celebrity fashionista wears somethings, does not mean u should too..
This coming from a girl who inhales fashion for a living!
I have to say, I'm on your team too. Team "Uggs = Ugly". I used to sport them (admittedly). I wore them shuffling around the block in the cold while walking the pooch. They got water stained and stretched out very quickly and definitely added a dowdy gait. I prefer something a little more flattering these days. I'm all for belting dresses though and I'm the driver of the high waisted band wagon.
I actually kind of understand it for cold weather--it's just that people started wearing them on sunny days in LA--with shorts! Why??
I HATE uggs with a passion. I have some and only wear them indoors. The skirt thing is insane. I think people just throw out logic and decide if its trendy you can wear it with everything. oh so wrong.
but belts with dresses are cute! tell pedro sometimes girls need to make a waist. belt loops are overrated.
Just for fun, I torture my friends in NYC by telling them when they call bundled up in icy cab on the way to a dark and cold restaurant that I am outside watering my plants in nothing but a tee and short shorts + Uggs. They are horrified but jealous.
Guess what, fashion types...Uggs are comfortable!! yes, i said it. To me there is nothing more sad than to see some so-called fashionista trussed up in too high heels and tight clothing. Part of being comfortable with who you are is being, well--comfortable!!!
Uggs are made inside of sheep fur or something, they are waterproof, cozy & warm--you can wear them indoors & out.
and p.s. i don't work for them, i just am glad they exist
UGG Bootsseems to be the boot if somebody wants to stay up to date. And these are simply must have if you want to be latest and greatest of all that is fashionable.
