kristopher dukes: unzipped on trustyourstyle

Seems TrustYourStyle has become less of a fashion blog over time for a few reasons. Apart from Style.com, fashion blogs are kind of boring. My friends who read them tell me that fashion blogs are either about a) all the insanely priced things that ladies buy using hubby's credit card when he's not looking (way to score one for smart independent women), b) the latest mish-mosh of $2 vintage finds thrown on for the day--or c) endless lists of sales happening in spots and times so remote that it would take a seer on a camel to divine their locations. Obviously we haven't been reading KRiSTOPHERDUKES.com, but that is about to change. Kristopher is a fashion blogger who gets down to the basics: Sex, Heels and Bags--in that order--and she's here today baring her soul on fashion.

mj: Is fashion writing your first love?

kristopher: My first love is writing, period. I decided to specialize in fashion because I always loved how you can manipulate people with your image. And I figured fashion was a fluffy enough topic that I could poetically masturbate.

mj: Just curious about your thoughts on L.A. and fashion? Do you cover fashion week in LA? Do you think the real fashion industry is NY based?

kristopher: How is LA's sense of chic even up for debate? Women here spend hundreds of dollars on velour track suits and clothing by a company with the name "Couture" in it. Eat that, New York and Paris.

mj: According to your bio, sounds like you're writing a book--I love that it's fiction and would also love it if you could talk a little about it...

kristopher: My book is on the back burner, but likely it'll be a highly edited version of reality, same as the stories on KRiSTOPHERDUKES.com about myself and The Boy.

mj: I think you have great style! Are you a major shopper? If so, online or in person? What's a typical outfit you'd be wearing and who are some of your favorite designers that you wear?

kristopher: Thank you very much. I'm actually majorly a minor shopper. I barely, rarely have the time. If I'm shopping, I'm either browsing for business reasons, or I'm in and out of the place faster than your boyfriend.

My typical outfit? I've a bit of a uniform: a flapperish frock, hooker heels, a boss bag made out of a dead animal, and way too much eye makeup. I've also had short/bobbed hair since I was 15.

As for favorite designers, I don't really have any, though lately I'm loving Lerre's shoes.

Here are A FEW THINGS YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT KRISTOPHER DUKES:

A) THE FOUR MOST STYLISH PEOPLE THAT INFLUENCED ME:
1. Coco Chanel, for making minimalism luxurious.
2. Ayn Rand, for making minimalism a philosophy.
3. Henrik Ibsen, for making minimalism modern.
4. Kristopher Dukes. She's hot.

3. Anyone who makes clean, quality, minimalist clothing -- that's cut up to my crotch.
4. Whoever remembers that life is short. Your skirt should be, too.

Hahahaha! That was so refreshingly funny!

Although I don't completely agree with Kristopher's view on killing animals.

I'm ok with wearing animal fur, or leather as long as it wasn't skinned alive. that's torture ppl!

Wow, I was a little worried some of you might find this too offensive but I like all kinds of things and was hoping you would too. I'm the biggest animal lover (I won't say ever...but) ever--and laughed the hardest at the Stella McCartney remark. Even my business partner, who is annoyingly not amused by most things fashion, laughed out loud when he read it. That's right, I never thought I'd use LOL in a sentence. There, did it.

You ladies made my night.

Which is saying a lot, since I bought three soy lattes already.

Thanks for having me, MJ.
