doodle stitching and aimee ray

I have long been a fan of the whimsical embroideries of Aimee Ray, the author of "Doodle Stitching" (click here for more info on the book). Aimee has dropped by trustyourstyle today to talk about her work and I think you'll enjoy this!

mj: Your work is just great! Could you tell us a little about how you got into drawing/painting and embroidery?

aimee: Thank you! I started embroidering when I was around 5 years old, my grandma would bring me samplers to work on. Just in the last few years I have picked it up again to try out my own designs. I’ve always loved anything creative and I am a graphic designer so I do a lot of computer related artwork. I think one of the things that drew me back to embroidery is that it’s completely different than that. It’s an ancient art form but it’s easy to incorporate new ideas and styles into.

mj: What inspires you in your creative work?

aimee: Everything! Especially nature and animals, dreams, other artists, there are so many creative people out there! I have this internal need to make things and all the stuff I love comes out in what I do.

mj: What are some of your favorite projects that you've done? Are you working on
anything new?

aimee: My book was challenging but really fun and it’s so exciting to see people enjoying it! I’d love to write more books and share more of my patterns. I’m always making things to sell in my etsy shop, and there are always a million ideas in my head of things I want to try, it’s just a matter of finding the time.

mj: Do you sell to other stores besides Etsy?

aimee: I have a few other shops I work with: brightoctober.com and glitterworkshop.com to name a few.
