I've been a Chloe Dao fan from the moment that Diane von Furstenberg, a guest judge on Project Runway, flipped over the dress Chloe made on the fly. If you weren't following Project Runway back then, all you need to know is that Chloe's style was simple, elegant, and fun, and that's why so many of us loved her, plus she was sweet and just did her work without all the drama.

mj: What did you think when you first heard that only 8 percent of women feel beautiful when sleeveless?

chloe dao: I was really shocked and a bit sad. Its goes to show you that we, as women, really need to love ourselves more and not be so critical when we look in the mirror. This is why I love the Dove Deodorant Sleeveless Ready Campaign. Dove not only came out with a great product, Dove Ultimate Clear Deodorant, which helps give women softer, smoother underarms, but the campaign encourages women to feel confidently beautiful everyday.

mj: Can you tell us a little about your store and how you are involved with the Dove Deodorant Sleeveless Ready Celebrity Auction?

chloe: LOT 8 boutique is my dream come true. I call it my "little baby." The goal of LOT 8 has always been about simplicity, yet having a unique edge. I want my store to help women find their personal style and their own confidence. I believe true style is when you are comfortable in your skin.

chloe: Dove Deodorant asked me and other celebrities to each design one-of-a-kind sleeveless shirts to be auctioned off on www.Dove.com beginning on May 2. My design for the auction is a classic Chloe Dao in that it is sleeveless and nearly backless. If you love it, you can download my pattern at www.sleevelessready.com and create your own. Just have fun with it and be creative!

chloe: I hope that everybody will bid on this auction because it's all about encouraging girls and women to feel confident enough to go sleeveless. All of the proceeds go to uniquely ME!, a Dove Self Esteem Fund program, which provides self-esteem workshops to help young girls find their definition of beauty.

In my field of work, style and beauty seem to be dictated by brands and designers, but I love that Dove is giving that control back to the people. For me, great fashion and beauty stem from the measure of a woman's sense of individuality.

mj: Which of the 16 shirts is your favorite and why?



chloe: I love my design because it's so me. I included the quote, "LOVE LIFE, LOVE FASHION, LOVE, CHLOE DAO" because I am finally at the point where I am very comfortable being me and I want to celebrate that and inspire others.

mj: If you could change anything about the way women view themselves what would it be?

chloe: I feel that as women we need to view ourselves through our own eyes and not assume that other people are thinking negative thoughts about us. If we are confident and strong then others will pick up on that as well.

mj: Chloe, can you comment on your spring line and what you have in the works for fall '07?


I'm loving this green print empire dress by Chloe + this cute eyelet dress!

chloe: I really was all about dresses for Spring. I did mod short dresses, a voluminous empire dress and a sleek, fitted, knee-length dress. I always love white for Spring, so I went a little crazy. I used white eyelet, white cotton trim with white ric-rac and white floral embroidery, white silk charmuese, and white chiffon. I like the clean look but with all that white, I did tons of prints.

chloe: For Fall 07 I am mainly into jackets. I am combining dark brown, olive and avocado green. Those are the base colors for Fall 07 but to be honest I've been so busy I haven't thought too much about the full line yet. Thank God that I work on my own schedule instead of the real fashion calendar!
