Ever since I came across Danielle Maveal's kissing bunny bracelet on Etsy, I have been fascinated with her work. Turns out in addition to her website www.daniellemaveal.com and her etsy store, she just started a mini-store inside of her blog at goldschool.typepad.com and was nice enough to stop by for a chat. I think you'll enjoy it!

mj: You're so creative, how did you decide on jewelry versus another medium, or maybe you do other art work that I don't know about? Please tell...
danielle: I've been creating visual art since I can remember - I always wanted to be an artist. I figured making wearable creations would be one way I could be an artist while leaving the starving part. I actually took Creative Writing and Film in University and then as soon as I graduated I signed up for a jewelry course because I knew its what I wanted to do. I've recently started screenprinting and painting again. You can see a few pieces in my etsy shop!

mj: When you design what is your inspiration?
danielle: I'm inspired by all the objects, creatures and ideas I obsessed over as a child. Or perhaps I just haven't grown up - either way. All the images I use in my Happiness series are from childhood fascinations. I'm now getting inspired by this "Cute" obsession that is popping up in craft and style. I'm planning some pieces that challenge that word - some more labor and thought intensive work.

mj: Which is your favorite design that you've done--this season? Ever?
danielle: I love my new Gold School series. I'm combining 18k yellow gold with silver and it's given me the change to get back at my soldering station, which is very satisfying. My favorite design ever has to be my Fake Diamond Ring. Its just so cheeky.

mj: What do you enjoy most about designing?
danielle: I like not being told what to do. I've always just liked to do my own thing and learn on my own. I get to do that and I also get to share my obsessions with others.

mj: Are you working on anything new?
danielle: I'm etching mirrors, silk screening tees, sewing up little bunnies kissing pouches, creating wall decals. I really want to expand from Danielle Maveal Jewelry to Danielle Maveal Designs.

One-of-a-kind acrylic and 24 gold leaf painting inspired by childhood fascination with big cats and love.
