The Hyatt Grand Champions Resort

One of the most underrated things in our culture is the fine art of doing nothing, or at least very little. I had the wonderful opportunity to do just that last weekend when I drove out to the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort and Spa to write about their Agua Serena Spa.

View from the villa

I had to wonder as I sat stuck in traffic for almost three hours on the way to Palm Springs, if the drive was really going to be worth the hot stone massage, but once I drove into the 35 acre oasis in Indian Wells, heard the soothing sounds of giant fountains all around, and found to my surprise that I was being housed for two nights in a secluded 1100 square foot private villa with butler service, two plasma screen televisions, a beautiful living room with fireplace, a large bedroom with reclining couch, a luxurious marble soaking tub, and a private garden backyard with Jacuzzi--yes, it was definitely worth it!

I was schedule for a hot stone aromatherapy massage in the early evening so I had some time to check out the grounds. Besides the deluxe workout room that opens up to a view of the whole place, there are tennis courts, and you can hardly miss the championship golf course. There were actually quite a few families staying for Easter weekend with tons of kid activities going on at that pool, but the adults-only pool and bar area was quiet and serene.

The adults-only pool

I had a blister from walking around in a new pair of sandals so one of my private butlers happily whisked me over to the spa in his golf cart. Named for the pools of glistening waters surrounding the spa, Agua Serena treatments feature natural remedies easily found within the desert, including fragrant botanicals and stones. The trickling waterfalls in the Reflection Pool gently lulled me into calmness as I sank into the inviting teak lounge chairs sprinkled throughout the Relaxation Room, and sipped on refreshing lemon water, gazing at the private courtyard.

The Agua Serena Desert Stone Massage is a hot stone and aromatherapy massage that applies the ancient wisdom of aromatherapy to the ritual of therapeutic hot stone massage to create harmony and positive energy flow. Using various techniques and essential oils, warm stones are strategically positioned to relax the body at its deepest level. It was heavenly!

When I returned from my massage there was a beautiful cheese and fruit plate left on the dining table and within moments one of my private butlers whizzed over on his golf cart to deliver a wine opener. A jacuzzi under the desert stars was truly the end to a perfect evening.

I highly recommend booking a relaxing weekend of doing very little. Here are the details:
