THE BLYTHE LIFE

I just received these photos hot off the press. A few months ago, Gina Garan invited me to join this year's group of fashion designers to create my vision of a Darling Diva Blythe for their Fifth Annual Charity Fashion show in Tokyo. Gina is the photographer/author responsible for the revival of Blythe and Blythe's metamorphosis into an international fashion plate dressed by the likes of Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, John Galliano, Prada, Vivienne Westwood, Issey Miyake, Versace, Sonia Rykiel, and many others.

It was kind of thrilling to see my doll (second from the right) on display. I designed her on behalf of UTOPIA, the non-profit organization I'm involved with working to end world poverty. All funds raised this year through the auction of Blythe dolls go to Japan's Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Although I couldn't attend, I hear it was a great success--there's already a team at work editing video footage for a new Blythe Fashion DVD so those who couldn't make the event can still enjoy the experience.

Directly after their debut at the Darling Diva Fashion Show, the dolls were kept sitting pretty in their display cases at Spiral Garden in Tokyo for one week in an open public exhibition. This exhibit was just taken down on July 2nd but will be up again in late August at Venus Fort in Odiaba, Tokyo. Additional events and exhibitions are still in the works as well.

Last but not least, the fabulous team at CWC International, who promote all Blythe events, will be introducing their newest book, "Blythe Moment". This book is a visual document of all the one-of-a-kind stylings created for the 2005 and 2006 fashion shows. (Yes, that means my little glamour girl is in there!)

Here she is right before jetting off to Tokyo (hair in clips to keep the beautiful hair style by Barry Reitman of Juan Juan Beverly Hills and eyelashes by Hollywood makeup artist Michelle Garbin intact during shipping).

Cinema Princess dolls from 2005 have been photographed "on location," fashion-shoot style while 2006 Darling Diva dolls are presented in catalogue format. Still fresh off the presses, "Blythe Moment" is currently only available for sale through Junie Moon, CWC Tokyo's flagship boutique, and at Blythe Fashion events. In the next month, distribution will be picked up by Graphic-sha so then it will be available at bookstores near you! (Urban Outfitters usually sell Blythe books).
